Research Paper

An objective of organizing a research paper is to allow people to read your work selectively. When I research a topic, I may be interested in just the methods, a specific result, the interpretation, or perhaps I just want to see a summary of the paper to determine if it is relevant to my study. To this end, many journals require the following sections, submitted in the order listed, each section to start on a new page. There are variations of course. Some journals call for a combined results and discussion, for example, or include materials and methods after the body of the paper. The well known journal Science does away with separate sections altogether, except for the abstract.
Your papers are to adhere to the form and style required for the Journal of Biological Chemistry, requirements that are shared by many journals in the life sciences.

So great has been the endurance, so incredible the achievement, that, as long as the sun keeps a set course in heaven, it would be foolish to despair of the human race.

Diet Plans For Women

Here's a simple diet plan for women. Weight loss should come pretty easy if you follow this or make just a few adjustments. Nothing complicated here... just take the next 2 minutes to read this to get an idea on what you have to do for some serious weight loss.

1. Breakfast
Have a protein shake with some cottage cheese in it. Also have a low calorie yogurt or 2 pieces of fruit. This will give you the necessary protein and energy to start the day out right. There's some flexibility here. So don't feel like you're limited. Lots of choices and flavors you can mix and match here.

2. Lunch
Go with a soup or salad and make sure it has at least 20 grams of protein in it
Soups and salads are great for filling people up. But they're missing something usually. What? PROTEIN. By adding protein, you're making a meal out of it. Again, lots of choices here. Don't get hung up on just 1 thing. You have options. You won't get bored if you think creatively.

3. Dinners
A lean meat with 2 side dishes of vegetables is ideal. More good protein while having some healthy vegetables. Oh, one thing. Make sure 1 of the vegetables is NOT potatoes. Potatoes are a starchy carb and they spike your blood sugar too much. So it's best to avoid them.

4. Snacks
Stick with apples and bananas. You can't go wrong with these. You have no excuses either since apples and bananas are easy to bring anywhere.
Look, this basic diet plan for women weight loss is simple and uncomplicated and it'll give you all the nutrition you want, while also giving you a burst of energy all while you're losing weight. Don't just think about doing this... DO IT NOW.

pinata

Pinatas are a lot of fun to make and can be prepared quite a while ahead of the party (though at times between cakes, invitations, decorations and the zillion other things you'll need to do, it's ok to break down and buy one from your local party store*grin*.

General Paper Mache Instructions

Bird Pinata, Bat Pinata, Dinosaur Egg Pinata

Dora the Explorer  -- round pinata (punch ball from the dollar store) with black crepe paper hair and painted on features -- check out the Rock Crusher Pinata for specifics on how to make a round pinata

Fish Pinata, Frog Pinata, Rock Crusher Pinata (Construction Theme), Pikachu (Pokemon) Pinata, Spider Pinata -- great for Halloween or Spiderman party

Super Simple Pinata -- this is the easiest (and least messy) version of a pinata I know.  It's great for groups of kids.

Playing the Pinata Game.

Hang the pinata up from the ceiling. Each child gets a turn trying to break the pinata.  Blindfold the child and give them a stick (a broom handle works well) -- make sure all the other children stand WELL back from the swinging!  Turn the child around in a circle 2 or 3 times and point him or her in the direction of the pinata.  The child gets to swing the stick 2 or 3 times.
Then another child gets a turn. When someone breaks the pinata, all the children get to gather the goodies. You might want to prewrap the goodies in bags so they don't get paper mache on them and so that each child gets and equal share -- this is especially useful when the children are of various ages.
TIP:
  • I use skipping ropes, to rope off a small circle inside a large circle.
  • The stick (and whoever is using it) stays inside the small circle.  When the person's done using it, they have to put the stick down inside the small circle before they go back to the audience.
  • The audience stays outside the large circle
  • At most parties, remembering the rules of the circles becomes as much of a game for the kids as whacking the pinata.

2011 Acne Treatment

As the hormone changes in our body near puberty, the dormant oil glands stimulate and begin to over-secrete. The gland starts to expand with dead cells and sebum within it and the dirt and pollution clogs it even more. Hence, this first creates a black head that later becomes an acne. But this does not necessarily suggest acne to be a teenage predicament, as 20-40% of adults are also found to be a victim of acne.

Being a Costume Designer.

A brief look at what the role of a costume designer for film and theatre entails.

Costume Designer

Costume design for a production of the Nutcracker
Costume Designers are essential in contributing to a film’s atmosphere: they create style, sense of place and time, and accentuate a character’s feelings, personality or intent at any given time. Costumes can be as subversive and intricate as dialogue, and to design them takes dedication, originality, and a deep understanding of what clothes mean.

To become a costume designer, the most conventional route is studying Fashion and Design at university, or Fine Art. Marketing can also help, along with Performing Arts, Theatre Studies and Media. Costume designers must show a strong work ethic, be able to work to a brief and deadlines, be competent with tailoring and sewing, and the ability to express their thoughts in drawings helps immensely. A broad knowledge of history is also desired for theatrical and period productions.

Freelance designers are usually hired for one specific project, maybe because they have a strong individual style the director would like appearing in his production. They are paid upon hire, upon delivery of the final costumes, and, in the case of theatre, on opening night. This is where most costume designers begin their career, at least, because being freelance allows them to work on more than one project at once, and the flexibility allows them to gain more experience in a wider field.

A residential designer is hired by a film or theatre company for an extended period of time. They can work with the company for years, or one season or film, but the main difference between these and freelancers is that residentials are always on hand for consultation and collaboration.

Academic designers are ones who have become teachers, either to supplement their income or because there is such demand for them in this medium. Due to the extra responsibilities, they are unable to freelance as much as their counterparts. They may be able to fit in a residency at a company or studio, however. As with every job, demand for professional qualifications within the medium is growing and unqualified professionals are finding it harder to break into academic institutions as teaching staff.

Responsibilities of a Data Controller

Data controller is legally responsible for the personal information it holds. It may be an individual or an entity.

Responsibilities of a Data Controller

Data controller is a person or an entity who / which controls and is legally responsible for keeping the personal information. Information may be stored in computers or in structured manual files. Data controller decides why and how any personal data should be processed.

If an individual or an organization is responsible for the personal data it holds, then the individual / organization is called as data controller. If an individual / organization just keeps personal data but some other organization is responsible for that data, then that particular organization becomes data controller and the individual / organization becomes data processor.

Responsibilities of a data controller is defined by various acts in different countries. Generally data controller has to ensure compliance with laws like the Data Protection Act of 1998 in the United Kingdom. Data controller is duty bound to comply with the rules prescribed on how to deal with personal data. All the legal procedures related to processing personal data should be adhered to. Data controller also becomes responsible for the actions of the data processor when the later would be carrying out duties on behalf of the former. When ever an individual citizen requests in writing or by email about his personal data, the data controller should inform the individual if they or someone on their behalf is processing that particular individual's data. Details pertaining to what data they possess, to whom is it being disclosed and the purpose of holding that individual's data should be given to the individual on request. Individual will have to pay a nominal fee.

Data controller plays an important role in the current global market scenario where the personal data of an indiviaual is more likely to be misused by vested interests.

The Day In The Life Of A Band

Do UK bands overcharge for their services? maybe you think that a band just drops out of a cloud and starts playing? read this then think again!!!, this may be an interesting read for US citizens especially musicians, it will make you realise how hard it is to be a musician in the UK!!

A Day In The Life Of A Rock Band

having played in bands myself most of my life I think I can see the things pretty good from both sides of the bar.

First off: Do the bands charge to much for there services? lets base this on the info I have from a lot of bands on our website which I reckon is around £200 per gig on average, OK so what do the bands do for the £200, most people think that bands just drop out of the sky right on to the stage, begin their 90 mins of pure musical enjoyment and then pop back into the cloud taxi that brought them.

Reality: Apart from the small matter of spending half your youth learning to to play the the instrument, you then have to spend the other half of your youth working a day job to pay for it, you then have to buy all the other ancillary equipment a band needs to gig, (PA, lighting etc) you also have to learn the songs and pay for rehearsal rooms and fuel to get there, (4,5,6 people).

OK done all that, gig day:
Go to wherever your gear is, pack it all down and move it into the van or car, Murphy's law states that this is always either down three flights of stairs from some ones attic or up one set of narrow windy ones from some ones cellar (mind yer knuckles on that brickwork Eugene!) phew out on the street now, hope yer good at Rubicks cube coz you then have to fit loads of square pegs into round holes as you load up the van or one of the 4 cars, done that? don't forget the fuel, don't wanna run out of gas with all the gear in the vehicle do you?

Drive to the gig 1,5,10,20,30, Murphy's law says its normally the wide end of the mileage, once you are at the venue you need to take the gear into the venue, Murphy's law requires the up or down stairs here as well, (don't prop the door open with a mic stand or the punters will get cold and hate you all night, once in you then need to set all the gear up, a giant jigsaw puzzle of which the last crucial piece is either broke or someone left it back at the house! don't worry almost time for a sound check were nearly there, whoops why isn't the PA working?, anyone got a f*****g soldering iron?

Once this is all done you can then get on with the best bit, (this is the bit you get paid for right?) all being well you have a full house of appreciative punters who are just there to listen to the music, when all is not well you have 48% audience who think they are Simon Cowell and the other 48% who think they are George Martin, the other 4% are so p****d they don't even count!

Gig over, job done, or is it? nope you then have to wrap up the jig saw and put it all into appropriate case take it back up/down Murphys stairs, redo the Rubicks cube back into the van or car , battle through the pissed up crowd whilst making sure nobody makes of with any of it, once you done all this all you need to do is drive home right?, wrong, you have to unpack it all from the car/van at the other end and take it all up/down Murphy's stairs ready for to set up again for the next rehearsal.

Job done, now to share out all that £200 in cash, lets base this on a four piece without a roadie/engineer, easy £50 each right? wrong, you owe £5 for the last rehearsal and £5 in fuel, with the £10 you spent in the pub, oh and the two PP3's you got from the garage ect. if you are lucky you end up with a tenner at the end of the day unless your are Freddy Frugal! sorry I forgot about the mic you left at the gig and now have to pick up, whoops it's not there either and now you are minus £100!

OK, got the picture? I think you may agree with me that the bands do not overcharge for their services, far from it, far from it, you can earn more busking in the precinct without all the hassle, I reckon this puts the bands overcharging out of the equation don't you?

OK, this leaves the venues who others reckon don't pay enough, based on our £200 this is how I see this, (I am not a landlord and never have been so if you are maybe you can put in some real figures for this, all I can say that to pay out £200 you must have to sell a lot of beer to get this back and then realise a profit on top of that, and that needs a lot of punters, don't forget the venue also has other costs, yearly PRS payments are a prime example, you have to book the bands in the first place, unbook them and then re arrange gigs when bands split up or have personnel problems, print out and put up posters etc.

Sometimes the place may be empty all night for one reason or another in which case the venue looses money and wishes they had not put on a band at all, it's allright saying, yeh it was packed last Sat when such and such a band played but you have to take these thin nights into account as well, the whole thing of putting live music on must be a juggling/gambling act, in my experience the landlords normally put up with it all because they love and support live music, this is always the case in smaller pubs where there would not be enough people in to warrant paying £200 even if they were packed to the doors.

So who is at fault here, the bands overcharging or the venues not paying enough? the answer in my opinion is neither of them so who's fault is it?

The answer is it's the punters fault, yeppers, I will prob get slagged off for this but it's the only answer I can come up with, why? because they have got to used to having live music on at there local for free, when I here people complaining about the band you would think they had paid a fiver to get in, half of them spend most of their cash somewhere else and arrive to see the last show whilst they nurse a pint and complain, lets face it if they had to pay for a ticket or pay on the door they would get there earlier, if they got there late or did not even turn up it would make no odds if they had already bought a ticket, this way you would be keeping live music alive whether you were there or not.

It is my view that this is what will have to happen sooner or later, the bands can't charge any less and the venues cannot afford to pay any more, it's a stalemate folks, one or two things will happen, either the venues will close down, (you only have to read the posts on here to realise that is already happening) the other is that the crowd will have to pay to get in, I am certain that most people would do this if it meant keeping their local music pub open.

If the venue kept the gig money at the same level, lets say £200 again, on top of this they could send a pot around as well so the band get this as well, if the band are crap then their pot will reflect this and visa versa, this way the band get more money and the venue pays the same, (just sending a pot round is no good as it means the venue doesn't have to make any effort to get punters in), remember the acts are ultimately there to entertain the crowd at the venue not to promote it.

I reckon the best bet is tickets and pay on the door, maybe even pass a pot as well, the venue and bands should all do their bit to promote any gigs, tickets are great, you know more or less if its going to be full or not by ticket sales, if the bands/venues are guilty of anything it is promotion, people will not turn up if they don't know what's on, both should work together on this to ensure max turn out, I may be wrong on a lot of this and I am sure many of you will point stuff out, however these are just my own personal views and observations I have made from both sides of the fence.

One thing I am certain of is pretty soon something will have to change one way or another

How To Get a Good Job in a Competitive Job Market

The job market is very competitive and the hiring standards for good employers reflect that very well. The right degree and expertise can help you qualify for high-paying jobs even in the midst of highly competitive job market.
  • Do You Desire A Well Paid Job?
  • Specialization Distinguishes You From Other Job Seekers
  • Superior Academic and Professional Qualification is a Plus
  • Marketing Your Skills Through Your CV
  • Locate Available Jobs Even Before They Are Advertised
  • Should You Need to Get a Well Paid Job

Do You Desire A Well Paid Job?

If you are desirous of getting a well paid job, you must be prepared to give it all it takes to achieve your heart's desire. In today's very competitive job market, the only types of people who end up having the well paid jobs are those who specialize at some skills, those that have superior academic and professional qualification, those who market themselves and their skills well and those who know how to locate available jobs before they are publicized.

Do you desire a well paid job? If you do, you should have specialist skills associated with the industry you belong in. These specialist skills, added to superior academic qualifications, will stand you in a good pole position to get good jobs even in a bad job market.

Specialization Distinguishes You From Other Job Seekers

Specialization at a particular task distinguishes you from the horde of other job seekers who have the same academic and professional qualifications just like you.

When you specialize and become an expert in a given field, you stand a better chance of getting a well paid job in that field as compared to another job seeker who has only a general knowledge in that area.

For instance, in the accounting profession, as a result of complete computerization of all aspects of accounting and record-keeping, getting a well paid job depends on which accounting software you know very well.

Some accounting professionals who seek to distinguish themselves have gone on to specialize on accounting software like PeachTree, QuickBooks, Quicken, Sun Microsystems, etc. Some others have specialized in customizing Microsoft Excel to carry out consummate accounting functions.

The benefit derivable from this expert skill is that when jobs become available, those who have them are preferred over and above those who have just general knowledge of the task.

Superior Academic and Professional Qualification is a Plus

Having superior academic and professional qualification also stands you out when you apply to be considered for employment. Because most job seekers have just college degrees, those who have graduate and doctorate degrees, who are most times fewer in number, are often considered ahead of the rest to get well paid jobs.

Having an MBA is also definitely an advantage that will place you head and shoulders above those who do not have them where such skills are required in the employment process.

Marketing Your Skills Through Your CV

There are those who get well paid jobs but do not have such special skills as we had discussed earlier. This category of people also does not have superior academic and professional qualification.

Their selling point is how they market themselves and their limited skills to make them stand out. These people, while acknowledging their pedestrian qualifications, seek for ways to be conspicuous to the employers. They learn how to package their limited skills to stick out and they also prepare their CV's in such a manner that their CV's sell them to the employers even before they appear in person during the interview.

Sometimes, they employ experts to write their CV's and covering letters for them thus presenting them as thorough professionals to the employers. These people end up getting well paid jobs while their more qualified contenders are left wondering where they missed it.

Locate Available Jobs Even Before They Are Advertised

The other types of people who get well paid jobs are those who know how to locate available jobs even before they are advertised. Through contacts they have made with organizations and their employees, they are able to know of existing vacancies and work clandestinely to fill them immediately.

They are not afraid to ask even though they have been informed that vacancies do not exist. It has been canvassed that most vacancies when available are filled up even before they are advertised.

Those who get them are the ones who have learned to locate these jobs as soon as they are available and apply for them before they become public knowledge.

Should You Need to Get a Well Paid Job

Getting a well paid job

Getting a well paid job is daily becoming more and more difficult. Whether on the internet or offline, the same requirements are made of job seekers towards assessing their suitability for advertised jobs.

The economic down turn and recession being experienced in most economies of the world has led to tremendous job losses and closure of many manufacturing and service organizations.

This problem has also triggered a tsunami of bank failures in the United States and Europe and many more are about to declare for bankruptcy and contract their operations. Many jobs have been lost and many more will still follow until the economies recover.

This spate of business failures, which has resulted in job losses, has put a strain on the very limited job market. The available jobs are being scrambled for by many qualified persons. However, only the very highly qualified persons are being considered for these jobs.

Stand Out From The Rest of the Applicants

acquiring superior academic and professional quali
In order to get a good paying job, you need to have exceptional academic and professional qualification that will stand you out of the pack wherever you apply for employment.

With so many professionals laid off following the depressed economy, a lot of qualified applicants with superior academic and professional certificates are available to be selected by employers.

Getting better qualification is not very difficult but requires a clear understanding of the requirements. The credit hours needed to be covered should be considered so you can know whether to do full time or part time study. The cost of acquiring the superior certificates should equally be ascertained.

There is no point in being a damn fool about it” - W. C. Fields[/b]
I do encourage people to persevere. Many people who succeed did so because they wouldn’t give up. There are times though, when you should give up. I got this right many times. After I realised that what I tried just didn’t work, and I dropped it and turned my attention to more promising opportunities.

There were times I got it wrong; very wrong. I fell into the trap of thinking “just one more time will do it”, “I’ve put too much into this to just give up” or “I must get this done”. I wasted much time and effort that I could have used more productively. It can be harder to give up than to continue. I am better at it now.

When the People Who Work for You Look Good, You Look Good

Before you become a boss you are judged on the work that you do. When you become a boss you are judged on the work your subordinates do.

A boss’s job is to get the best from their subordinates. If you are the one that does all the work, people will see you as a failure, no matter how good the work is. You must let your subordinates shine. People need to see them doing good work. Letting them take the credit brings more credit to you.

I have seen many a wannabe boss stopped in their growth because they want to do everything themselves. I often fell into this trap, because I enjoyed the actual work more than the bossy side of the job.

Maintain a Balance Between Your Career and Your Personal Life

Most people want to do this because they see their personal life as being more important than their career. That is how I feel.

But, even if your career is more important to you than your personal life, maintaining a balance is essential. To succeed you must always feel good about yourself. You will face difficulties and set backs in your career. If all you have is your career to define yourself worth, you will be lost. If you have a positive personal life you can make it through your career rough patches more easily.

This was a problem in my own career. With little else to fall back on, my options were often limited. Later in my career I made an effort to develop other interests. This gave me greater self confidence, and an escape from the problems I faced in my career. This helped me greatly when I had to make career changes.

Learn to Accept Politics

Every office has its “office politics”, but I worked in government and it is the “real politics” that I want to talk about. Over the years I heard many a colleague complain about “political interference” in their work. We live in a democracy and “political interference” is the people telling you what they want.

It is true that politicians can be corrupt, foolish or dishonest, but no politician will last long unless they are sensitive to the will of the people. They would not survive otherwise. Even in dictatorships, leaders cannot ignore the needs of the people forever.

Politicians deserve more respect than they get. Politicians may not understand the “technical” issues, but they know people. They can tell the difference between some one who is making a sincere effort to provide unbiased advice and someone who is lobbying for personal gain.

I never saw this as a problem for me, but I saw others become frustrated and angry because they resented politicians. It wasn’t good for their well-being or their career prospects.

Seek Out Opportunities to Develop Your skills

Skill takes time to develop. In his book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell reports that researchers have found that it takes about 10,000 hours of practice to truly master a complex skill. That can takes years to accomplish. By seeking out opportunities to use your skills you will reach the higher levels of skill faster.

Early in my career I realised that writing was an essential skill I needed in my job. I wasn’t a good writer, so I sought opportunities to write. I started to keep a diary. I spent about an hour a day writing it. Now, 30 years later, I have spent over 10,000 hours writing. I continue to learn and develop my skills and I feel much more confident.

Most of this writing experience was with my diary and technical documentation. The major limitation to growth with these types of writing is that, by and large, they are not really intended to be read. While I feel the experience was useful, it is a different kind of writing than I work on now.

Learn To Care and Not Care At the Same Time

I believe that this is the essence of professionalism. On one hand, we need to care about the quality of our work. On the other hand, we cannot let ourselves become too invested in a particular solution. Both goals are needed if we want to be effective professionals.

If we want to be accepted and respected as a professional, we need to have high standards for the quality of work we do. If we develop a reputation for sloppy or incomplete work, people are likely to discount our professional advice. Therefore, we must care deeply about the quality of our work.

When an issue is raised, everyone will have an opinion. As individuals, we too will have our opinion, but we must not let our personal opinion override our professional duty to provide unbiased advice. When people see us take sides in a debate, they are likely to discount our professional advice. Therefore, we must not care about the particular decision, lest it bias our advice.

Many times in my career, I realized that people had discounted my advice, not because they thought I did bad work, but because they thought I had a personal agenda. While we must strive to be unbiased, we must also be aware that we can never fully achieve that ideal.

How to make money online doing microjobs

Many people wonder how they can earn a little extra money online. It doesn't need to be difficult, microjobs and microjobbing is an easy way to make money on the Internet.
  • Introduction to micro jobs and microjobbing
  • Webeserve
  • Amazon Mechanical Turk
  • Microworkers
  • Conclusion

Introduction to micro jobs and microjobbing

The new buzz word for online workers in 2011 is microjobbing and micro workers are in high demand. Microjobbing refers to any job that typically takes from anywhere from one minute to fifteen minutes to complete.

So where are the micro jobs? Many of us who work from home or telecommute find ourselves doing microjobs automatically: responding to emails, business queries, writing short articles or business letters and doing product reviews. The new trend however; is online job sites that cater to business owners, e-commerce operators, podcasters, bloggers and professional freelance writers who need short small time assistance in their own work.

So can you make a living from microjobbing? Some people actually are, while others see these types of jobs as fillers, or as a way to break into working online. Actors, Artists and Writers do especially well at microjobbing sites that let them set up their own services, and determine how often they work.

Currently, there exist four key microjobbing sites: Fivrr, Webeserve Amazon Mechanical Turk and Microworkers.

Here's the article on
making money with fivrr.

Webeserve

Webeserve is a microjobbing site that allows you to be both a provider and seller of services. Freelance workers can create their own job profiles and advertise different services they are prepared to do for the price they are prepared to do them for. Registering with this company is free, and workers receive 85% of the fee, with 15% going to the Webeserve website.

A global site, anyone who can be paid through PayPal can register for work at Webeserve and get paid every 30 days.. Skills that seem to be the most in demand seem to be (in no particular order), posting blog comments, creating backlinks, article directory submissions, article distributions, blog post testimonials and writing short articles and reviews.

Amazon Mechanical Turk

Perhaps the best known microjobbing site, Amazon Mechanical Turk has been around the longest. Truly a micro job site, Mechanical Turk has jobs that take less than a minute like clicking on advertisements. Other jobs include finding website contact information, review corporate and youtube video's, verifying categories for e-commerce websites and doing brief blog posts. Currently there are over 90, 000 available micro jobs on this website.

While Mechanical Turk is a globally operating website many in the USA and Canada pass it by due to the low payment scale. Some jobs go for only a couple of cents, while some do go much higher. Some micro jobs that pay quite well on this site are short paragraph translation jobs along with photoshop and graphic design image jobs and website trouble shooting skills. These jobs require that you pass a qualifying test(s) before undertaking them.

Microworkers

One of the most interesting micro job websites is microworkers. This site is open to international residents and pays via Paypal at various times of the month. Registration is fee, and each new comer receives a $1 sign on bonus. Jobs here rely heavily on twitter skills; twittering websites and individual links to global consumers. Other in demand jobs listed for hire are completing social bookmarking to sites such as Digg and delicious. Creating back links, posting blog comments and testimonials and voting for youtube video's also figure prominently on this site.

A quick perusal of this site shows that most jobs, or campaigns as Microworkers calls them, pay anywhere from 10 cents to 75 cents and many jobs can be done under the two minute mark. This website pays once your account reaches $25 and added incentives include the referral program where you earn bonuses for recruiting both workers and employers.

Conclusion

Microjobbing is a megatrend that is here to stay. While it is not everyone's cup of tea, these jobs can give you a chance to use and add to your skill set and can provide freelancers with filler jobs when things are slow. Many work at home mom's often use these sites to gain online experience, while trying to build a work at home business.

Doing micro jobs can become both fun and addictive. All sites allow you to subscribe to jobs and you can find yourself working on several campaigns and for several micro job sites simultaneously. A good idea is to have a separate email account for just these jobs so you don't get overwhelmed and your inbox is easily managed.

How to survive a tele-sales job

Tele-sales jobs are often a misunderstood career path. The work and atmosphere involved has been portrayed badly by the media, leading many people to avoid it. Tele-sales can be as miserable or enjoyable as we choose to make it.
  • Introduction to tele-sales jobs
  • Getting started in tele-sales
  • The tele-sales environment
  • Surviving a job in tele-sales
  • Conclusion

Introduction to tele-sales jobs

Tele-sales in its simplist form is selling products and services over the telephone, usually within a call center or contact center environment. Often viewed as a last resort job, the word 'tele-sales' conjures up images of having to take a dull, dreary second job typically at night or involving shift work and trying to sell semi-useless stuff to rude customers.

Things have changed :-)

Not only has the call center environment changed, but how we sell, what we sell, and who we sell it to is vastly different from the old boiler room days of tele-sales. Today many tele-sales jobs are within Fortune 500 and subsidiary companies and top tele-sales performers can expect to make 50k and over. Many of these jobs often offer telecommute options or are completely home based, which to some professionals is one of the pros of tele-sales work.

Getting started in tele-sales

Even in a recession people need and want stuff, and it is typically the needs that win over the wants. Getting started in a tele-sales job often means starting on the bottom rung. Call centers are in every major and many smaller cities and towns, and chain call centes such as business supply Staples and telecommunications call centers are always looking for new recruits to sell products. Searching at your local job bank, or perusing the daily paper will usually bring up at least a handful of tele-sales positions requiring no prior experience.

Many people look to tele-sales as a new career after having been downsized and bring a wealth of applicable skills to the sales environments. A growing trend of retiree's looking to supplement their income through project based (limited time) tele-sales is definitely on the rise.

The tele-sales environment

Initial tele-sales positions in a call center environment usually mean sitting at a desk in a cubicle environment with a head set hooked up to a computer. Working along side at least 100 other employee's is never easy, the noise level is up and the chance to mingle, even over the water fountain is minimal. Tele-sales training may last a couple of days or in the better call centers a few weeks, and then your on your own with a quota to meet.

Succeeding in a tele-sales environment means usually adhering to a strict sales script and knowing when to ad-lib when necessary. Call times are closely monitored and it is essential to develop closing skills. Wittering on, without assuming the sales is a fast way to get shown the door.

Surviving a job in tele-sales

To survive and thrive in a tele-sales jobs means you need two things; a thick skin and an entrepreneurial mind set. Call centers often only offer base pay and bonuses, and it is the bonuses after your quota have been met that make all the difference. Knowing the structure of the bonuses and perks means you can set your own individual financial goals and go for them!

Once you've mastered basic tele-sales you might want to move on to a more professional environment. Top tele-sales organizations won't even look at you without one to three years established as a tele-sales performer. Good tele-sales jobs can be done at home through telecommute positions and often involve appointment setting where you pre-sell a business owner or manager a product or service.

Conclusion

Sales isn't for everyone. Tele-sales are a recession proof industry but they can be a lonely job even while working with a hundred or more other employee's. Training is often minimal and those looking to succeed often read suplementary sales guides or go on seminars or on-line training programs. Telecommute sales jobs often provide far more flexibility and earning potential once you have become established in the field.

Jobs 50 And Over

A positive article regarding the exciting oppotunities for the over 50s and or disabled people in Internet Marketing
  • Even Storm Clouds Have silver Linings...
  • Many of us oldies have learned to master a computer and are still compos mentis enough to learn new skills and new ways of doing things. I’m living proof of that!
  • This is where we can create our own opportunities and earn some decent money for Ourselves- through online marketing.
  • If life hands you a bag of lemons, you can complain that you wanted oranges, or you could make some delicious lemonade!!

Even Storm Clouds Have silver Linings...

Thanks largely to greedy bankers and ineffectual government, many are now facing a dire financial future, with little prospect of an improvement anytime soon. Indeed, Mervyn King, governor of the Bank of England, has said that people will be feeling the effects of this fiscal crisis for a long time to come. Soaring prices, increased taxation, swingeing, vicious and completely unfair cuts to public spending all bode well to add to the misery.

There is
massive completion in the job market and those of us who have been laid off, are disabled or unemployed and also past our first (and possibly second…!) flush of youth are going to be hit hard.

Anyway, before I start to depress us all, I want to say there are still exciting and lucrative opportunities for us, - jobs 50 and over, jobs for people with disability, jobs for the laid off …if we take the initiative and create them.

Many of us oldies have learned to master a computer and are still compos mentis enough to learn new skills and new ways of doing things. I’m living proof of that!

Online spending is massive and continuing to grow. In Europe alone online sales are expected to increase by 13% this year. (STATS)
Online sales in Western Europe are expected to increase more than 13% to €92 billion in 2011, after growing 18% to €81 billion in 2010.
Forrester Research predict online sales will increase 10% year-over-year from now until 2015.

The total number of online buyers in Europe,

( which includes the EU-17 (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the U.K.)

grew by 18% from 2009 to 2010, and is expected to grow from 157 million to 205 million.

Currently, 57% of European adults buy online, up 13.4 million (9%) from 2009.
The average European online shopper spent €517 online in 2010, excluding travel &
financial services products. The British spent the most online (€871 per person).
European adults are expected to spend €652 on average in 2015.

This is where we can create our own opportunities and earn some decent money for Ourselves- through online marketing.

With a willingness to put in the necessary effort- (don’t be fooled by
the many ‘Get-Rich-Quick’ promises out there- there are a lot of shysters willing to take your money by promising such things), coupled with a bit of old fashioned gumption, some sound advice and guidance, creating your own online marketing business is both possible and doable.

Sometimes, negative situations that cause us distress and which we might be tempted to think are our undoing, can prove (if you make the choice) to be the exact opposite- a fantastic, golden opportunity. You just need to reframe the situation in the positive.

If life hands you a bag of lemons, you can complain that you wanted oranges, or you could make some delicious lemonade!!

History of women in the British police force

Although they are now seen as an essential part of the British police force, women were once regarded with suspicion, opposition and stiff resistence by the establishment.

The introduction of women in the British plolice force was not plain sailing

The United Kingdom police force was founded by Robert Peel in 1829 and back then the notion that women would be part of that exclusively male dominated establishment would have been regarded by both men and women with complete an utter horror.

Yet today, one hundred and sixty two years later 20% of the British police force consists of female officers. It was not an easy journey, they were met with stiff opposition, suspicion and resistance. However, they stood their ground, fought the establishment and the rest is history. Not entirely surprising as many of the first volunteers were members of the women’s suffragette movement who knew how to battle and win.

Women in the United Kingdom (UK) police force first began duties in 1914 as no more than volunteers, at the suggestion of the Headmistress Association. They were very concerned about the corrupting influence of young soldiers in the towns and villages around the beginning of the First World War. The volunteers’ main focus was principally to control the public behaviour of young women in the towns and inner city areas.

The suggestion was met with a wave of enthusiasm by women keen to be part the new organisation, initially making it possible for 2000 patrols to be established. Their assignments included the patrol of public parks, alleyways and local cinemas, in an attempt to curtail acts of immorality in public places.

Later, in 1915 Margaret Damer Dawson, than Secretary of the International Congress of Animal Protection Society also voiced concerns about the behaviour of young women and sought to do something about it. Joining forces with the Chief Commissioner of police, Sir Edward Henry and Nina Boyle, together they founded the Women Police Volunteers (WPV).

The idea at first failed to meet with the approval of the government; however the outbreak of the First World War forced their hand, when large numbers of the police force resigned to join the British Army, leaving a void which needed to be filled. Another deciding factor was that the women opted to provide a service on a volunteer basis and wanted no payment of their services.

Margaret Dawson became commander in chief of the volunteers and Mary Allen, then a leading member of the women's suffragette movement was appointed her deputy. Under Margaret’s stewardship the volunteers were renamed ‘The Women’s Police Services’ (WPS). At first their attention was mostly focused on London, with Grantham in Lincolnshire being the only other town to form a branch. This was perhaps because the young army recruits were stationed close by and had easy access to the town.

Members of the WPS were used by the Admiralty to work as undercover spies and also as security officers in the munitions factories, where their main function was to frisked the women as they left the factories. Their performance came under close scrutiny and eventually they began to gain recognition for their work, causing the Bishop of Grantham to say in a public speech in 1915 that a National Women’s Police force should be formulated.

A year later in the 1916 police Act, the WPS received the first official recognition for their work. In the Act they were given legal standing, which allowed them to become full employees of the state as police constables. The only proviso was that they were still not allowed to be sworn in, nor were they given the authority to make arrests.

By the time the War ended in October 1918 there were 357 WPS stationed in various towns and cities within the British Isles. The WPS mostly comprised of well educated middle class women, who were now looking to be rewarded for efforts made during the war. They wanted the status of becoming full and permanent members of the police force, with all the powers and privileges enjoyed by their male counterpart. However, Sir Nevil Macready, Chief Commissioner of police denied them that opportunity, saying that on the whole they were too well educated and the male officers would be irritated and intimidated by them.

He later went on to recruit a nucleus of 110 women from the women’s voluntary patrol. Until then however, the members of the WPS continued in the same vein until 1920 when their name was changed once more to the Women’s Auxiliary Services.

Their journey continued through the decades and although the road was long and hard, they steadily progressed, ably assisted by the Equal opportunity and sex discrimination laws. By the nineteen nineties, enormous progress had been made in the establishment’s attitude towards woman police officers, to the extent that in 1995, Pauline Clare was appointed Chief Constable for Lancashire, the first woman to gain such a high office within the British police force.

Today there are 36,000 women poilce officers working shoulder-to-shoulder with their male colleagues. They are generally considered to be an indispensable part of the day-today operations of the British police force. Women in the UK police force have given their lives in the line of duty on more than one occasion and no doubt will do so again in the future.

Foreign Workers - Assessing your potential for Canadian Employment in 2011

As a career coach and recruiter specializing in assisting foreign nationals to secure Canadian employment, I have met many job applicants from all over the world that believe the Canadian Temporary Foreign Worker Program is the best route to take in jumpstarting their careers, and more importantly for some, realizing their dreams of coming to a country like Canada…the land of opportunity.
These are a few tips to keep in mind while looking for jobs.

Foreign Workers, Do not Fear - You are not Alone!

Finding a new job can be a scary process, especially for foreign professionals seeking work opportunities abroad.

Although the world wide web is laden with sites, blogs and posts referring to technical processes, requirements and government regulations on the Canadian Temporary Foreign Worker Program, I have found very few resources that one might consider ‘understandable’ for a foreigner considering temporary employment in Canada.

Some of the most common questions I am asked by candidates seeking employment here in the great white north are:

- How long will this process take?
- How much is this process going to cost me?
- Can I become a Permanent Resident in Canada?
- How will I be selected for the job?
- How do I obtain a VISA to come to Canada?
- The list goes on, and on, and on, and on…………………….

Foreign workers, do not fear. You are not alone in asking these questions. Surprisingly, there are many Canadian employers out there who also have limited knowledge of the TFW program. With complicated government processes that need to be followed closely coupled with such a fierce number of competitors out there searching for the same type of fantastic talent, many employers are unfamiliar with the possibility of hiring foreign staff to revitalize their workforce, and so can sometimes be unresponsive when receiving your applications for that ‘dream job’ you’ve seen posted on the Canadian Job Bank.

While there are many steps a foreign worker can take to help their profile stand out to a Canadian employer, one of the most effective ways to approach your search is by partnering with a reputable and ethical recruitment agency. Some of the incentives in working with a foreign recruitment agency include assistance with resume building, personalized career coaching services and even immigration assistance. You may also gain exposure to job openings that would not normally be advertised on your usual career based websites.

Keep in mind, however, that Canada is one of the top locations for employment the world over, and for that reason is a highly competitive global marketplace, especially for foreigners. Although your goals for 2011 may be focused on getting a great job offer from a prestigious Canadian employer in order to support family back home, before you invest too much time in applying for mysterious vacancies seen posted online, be sure to carefully assess your potential for securing work abroad, and more importantly, assess your potential for subsequent Canadian immigration.

Some things to consider as you further ponder this life changing decision are:

Your Assets to Securing Canadian Employment

Education- Do you have a college degree? Have you had years of training in a particular industry? Be sure that this education is documented in the way of Sealed Diplomas and official Transcripts of Records from colleges/ universities you have attended in the past

Motivation- Do you truly have the drive and passion that it takes to thrive in a new country and work environment? Only the most ambitious of global applicants are successful at securing their dreams of Canadian employment

Unique Skills/ Abilities- Do you bring something to the table through your work that is desperately needed here in Canada? If your English communication skills are strong, then your expertise in a certain industry could be a large benefit to the Canadian economy.

Clear Standing for Immigration- If you are in good physical health, with no criminal background, ties to your home country and funds to support your immigration, than Canadian employment might be a more realistic option than you originally thought

Once you have truly assessed your realistic potential of securing Canadian employment, you are now in a position where you may wish to partner with one of these aforementioned ethical recruitment agencies. Remember that it is absolutely illegal for an employer or recruiter in Canada to charge you fees associated with a job placement. Furthermore, make sure you do your homework on a particular employer or agency before accepting a job offer that may lead you to invest precious time and money on visa applications, travel expenses, etc. In Canada knowledge is power. Don’t become a victim in 2011. Take the correct steps to ensure your job search is handled efficiently and responsibly.
